Introduction: The first step to any F1 in Schools team’s journey is reading the rules and regulations! As any successful team will tell you: read, reread, and then reread again the rules! The rules not only outline the regulations that will help your engineers create a legal car for competition, but outline what you can expect to see at your competitive events as well. Keep in mind, it’s important for everyone to read both the technical and competitive rules (even if your role on your team isn’t technical).
Team Roles: learn about each role’s typical responsibilities and skills that you’ll learn in this position. This is a great place to start if you’re not sure what role you want to have on your team. There are also tips and tricks for each role that may be helpful as you work on your project.
Creating Your Team: Important for all members of your team (even if you aren’t the graphic designer or social media manager), this unit steps through creating your team’s unique brand and how to get the word out to the world.
Competition Elements: Breaking down the mystery behind each competitive element, these articles describe Key Performance Indicators and tips from some of the most successful teams in the US. Each article also has links to past examples of these elements from the World Finals! These material come from the top level of competition and provide an example to aim for, but remember to create something that represents your team!
Car Design: As a large part of the competition, your car is vital to your team’s success. Come with us as engineers from industry break down engineering concepts and good practices for the infamous engineering interview that you’ll have to complete at competition.
Project Management: In order to ensure your team’s success, excellent project management is essential. This unit covers the five stages of project management and covers important topics such as planning timelines, creating a budget, informing stakeholders, and planning for risk. These articles were prepared with information from the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation and are a great resource for Team Managers, Resource Managers, and Sponsorship and Marketing Managers.
Competition: Get ready for what we all look forward to! This section covers what you can expect to see at competitions, including tips for acing your interviews, what to expect at racing, project check-in, and more.
Extra Resources: For all the lead adults out there, we have prepared a 47-minute all inclusive course to help you help your team! In this section is also a summary of all linked resources from the course include project examples and other online resources.
The order of this course is a starting point for developing your team and isn’t a one-size-fits-all. Remember to work however works best for your team. It seems like a lot because it is! Just like completing your F1 in Schools project, there is a lot to learn and do before competition. These resources were created to help you along your way.
